Spring Watch, Day One

Okay, the holidays are over. The Christmas decorations are put away. We can have Spring now.

No, it isn't that bad. I'm not good and sick of Winter yet. That will happen near the end of February. Winter around here keeps a firm grip on things until mid-April. There are a few days when Spring teases us seductively with a warm day or two, and them she leaves us unfulfilled and Winter slams frigidly back into place, laughing maniacally.

So like my friend laurel825, I'm keeping watch on that big block of ice out back. The water on the cover has some of last fall's leaves frozen into it, and a football is innocently resting there, a toss gone bad. It's freshly frosted with a new coat of snow. I know there's clear water frozen underneath, and that mosaic stone patterned liner is under there too, to remind me of warmer days.
