Whoa! Didja get the numbers off that truck?!?March 11, 2002 - 9:06 p.m. Summer teethAnd some aren't. Big day today. Son2 got his braces off. He's been wearing them for what seems like forever for him, but in real time it's been three years. His teeth grow slowly. He had several pulled in the process of molar rehab and it seemed like it took forever for them to grow in. He's never happy about his ortho appointments and this one was no exception. But he came out a happy guy, smiling a straight and perfect smile. We didn't know they were coming off. I brought out something I got him for Christmas two years ago in his stocking. It was a tube of bubble gum, like the kind you get toothpaste in. He petulantly announced at the time that he couldn't chew it because of his braces. Son1 was all too happy to take it for him. But instead I told him I'd set it aside until he got his braces off. It was never meant to have that kind of shelf life. We cut the end of the tube off and coaxed it out of the tube with a rolling pin. It looked like something you shouldn't ought to put in your mouth... like cherry colored epoxy. I hope this is the end of a long and tedious dental ordeal for him. He's been visiting the dental chair since he was four years old. He had baby teeth filled so they would serve as solid place holders for his adult teeth. He was a brave little soldier. His brother has never had a filling in his life. So alike and so different.
